My Story

As long as I could remember, I always wanted children. I worked with children, I earned a specialized degree about children, and I provided parents with guidance on how to support children. Motherhood seemed so easy, you had your little person and watched them grow, teaching the life’s lessons everyday. It wasn’t until I had my own child that I realized that being a mother is totally different than being a mother. During pregnancy and the duration of the postpartum period, I did not feel like myself. I lost my color! No matter how hard I tried to be myself again, I couldn’t. With the demands of work, being a spouse, a friend, and being a MOTHER, I found myself constantly drowning. I missed the girl who was carefree, who could sing to music at the top of her lungs, who saw beauty within herself, and able to pour light and inspire others. This stage of my life was extremely hard but I told myself I was going to get my color back!

I dedicated time each day to exercise in order to lose the 60 pounds I gained during pregnancy. I sought out treatment for my mental health by speaking with a psychiatrist and undergoing therapy. I also made a promise to myself that I was not only going to get better but be a better version of myself. Over time, I not only saw my physical body transform but my mental health transform as well. And after hearing so many stories of other women undergoing the same thing, I wanted to use my motherhood journey to help. Thus, birthing Flamingo Fitness & Wellness, where we support women as they get their color back.
